From Browsing to Buying: How AI Agents Are Reshaping Commerce

Despite many thoughts that online shopping has reached its peak, a new variable has entered the equation. AI shopping agents are making their debut on the market, and retailers are rapidly buying in. These agents can satisfy a wide range of shopping needs, whether it's helping consumers find a piece of clothing that fits them best or even making sure they have adequate insurance coverage. No matter how big or small the task is, this new type of shopping is sure to influence the market.
Selecting a product isn’t the only way artificial intelligence is being used in the market. This new type of autonomous AI technology is also negotiating and scoping out products for consumers. With companies rushing to advance this agentic technology, the market is expected to grow to $175 billion by 2030. As these agents continue to advance, they are likely to disrupt markets.
Beyond retail shopping, researchers argue that AI agents will gain traction in markets where human intermediaries already exist, such as real estate, insurance, financial services, and more. A major draw for consumers could be the much lower cost of an AI agent compared to paying for human services. Although this may draw in many, nearly 79% of consumers express concerns about data privacy within AI commerce. Concerns persist even among those already interested. While AI shopping agents seem to have a promising future, some aspects still leave people undecided.
